Oh – I love staying in unique places when I travel! We recently stayed at Cambus O’May Hotel and let me tell you, it truly felt like stepping into a storybook! From the moment I walked in, I was immediately swept away by its old-world charm. Every room had something fascinating or quirky to catch my eye, whether it was the vintage furnishings or the authentic original features of a traditional Victorian Highland hotel, which made me feel like I was part of the hotel’s rich history.
Moreover, the setting is incredibly serene—just the sound of nature and the gentle rustle of the trees. It’s the perfect place to slow down and truly savour the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. If you love a mix of history and nature, this is absolutely your place!
Additionally, the hotel’s breakfast room transforms into a cosy restaurant at night, featuring a short, seasonal menu. However, booking is highly recommended—the restaurant was fully booked the night we dined there. Keep in mind, there aren’t any other dining options within walking distance, so plan accordingly!

Exploring the Area: Things to See and Do
If you find yourself staying at Cambus O’May Hotel, there’s plenty to explore in the surrounding area! One of my favourite experiences was visiting Balmoral Castle—it’s like stepping into a royal fairytale.
For those who love the outdoors, there’re plenty of walks and hikes around.
I also enjoyed wandering through the charming village of Ballater, filled with quaint shops and cosy cafés.
