Nestled on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Raglan is a hidden gem that perfectly blends stunning natural beauty with a vibrant, laid-back culture. Known for its world-class surf breaks, breathtaking landscapes and friendly community, Raglan is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking adventure, relaxation and a taste of Kiwi coastal life.
We had the pleasure of spending a long weekend in Raglan recently. It was great to be back – I doubt it was our last visit! For a small town Raglan just has so much to offer plus it’s only a 2h drive from Auckland.
This is what we enjoyed on our recent trip:

Stay: The Silos Raglan
I love unique accommodation and this converted cement silo didn’t disappoint.
A truly unique experience with views to die for and some nice restaurants and lovely shops & art galleries on the doorstep – we’ll be back!
Shop: Tony Sly Pottery
As an avid collector of pottery, this place is heaven!
I picked up a beautiful platter which features on our dining table on a regular basis and makes the food look irresistible.

Do: Sunset cruise
Sit back, relax and have a drink at the 90 min sunset cruise that leaves from Raglan Wharf most days.
We enjoyed the captain’s entertaining stories. Getting off at a remote black sand beach was the highlight and resulted in some stunning photos.
Discover: Te Toto Gorge
A 30 min drive from Raglan along a windy gravel road gets you to the Te Toto Gorge lookout.
It’s well worth the drive – the gorge is simply stunning and looks like something out of Jurassic Park.
If you feel energetic: a number of hiking trails crisscross the area.

Eat: Fish & Chips
You’ve got to eat fish & chips when visiting a seaside town!
We checked with the locals and they sent us to Raglan Fish at the top end of Raglan Wharf.
The super fresh fish went down a treat!
