Paradise, New Zealand

I’ve been a little quiet here on my page and for a good reason. Lots of work and planning is going on behind the scenes because after years of talking about it, Mr and I are finally doing the thing: we’re going travelling!!

We’ll say goodbye to New Zealand on 21 April 2026 and won’t be back until sometime in January 2027. There’s no return ticket yet; we’re choosing the slow path of travel that lets plans unfold as we go rather than pinning every moment to an itinerary.

First part: Asia

Hong Kong is our first step for a little big city energy, delicious eats and a hike or two and before we ease into the more serious part of the first leg, we’ll have some beach days in Phuket. From there we’ll head to Bangkok — a city we once called home — and I’m already looking forward to wandering the streets & markets, revisiting favourite corners and catching up with old friends.

Next is South Korea: a couple of weeks (and a bit) of travelling around, with friends from Tokyo joining us to explore Seoul together. We’re then off the beaten track to Mongolia for some genuine exploring. We’re joining a small tour group which is the first time for us as we usually do our own thing. Fingers crossed we’re loving the experience of group travel.

Next: Europe & beyond

We arrive in Germany at the beginning of June and from there we’ll take it one day at a time. We have a very long wish list and rough outline rather than a strict route, the prettiness of this trip is in the not-knowing. We’ll spend some time at our little house and I’m especially excited about a whole month in Italy (the food! the markets! the old towns!). We also want to explore more of the Balkans as we loved Bosnia and spend time in the Caucasus region. Benelux and Poland are on the list too.

There’s a much-anticipated two weeks in Iceland with my sister and we’re talking about dipping into Algeria and southern Africa if the stars align. Mostly, we want to leave space for surprises: charming towns, small cafés, local markets and not rush the process.

I’ll be sharing stories and photos along the way, here on the blog as well as over on my Instagram & Facebook pages.

If you have any favourite places or recommendations for any of the places above — cafés & restaurants, walks, neighbourhoods or people to meet — do please send them my way.

Can’t wait to get going — one week to go!!
