You might remember my earlier post about our rather uninspiring home gym—the one that’s always had the basics, but none of the buzz. It works, sure, but it’s never been a space that actually motivates you to work out. That’s what I’m setting out to change.
I haven’t finalised every last detail yet, but I’ve pulled together an inspiration board to shape the look and feel of the makeover—and it’s already making me more excited than any dumbbell ever could.
So what’s the direction?
Inject colour. Inject fun. This room isn’t going to hide behind black rubber flooring and grey walls just because it’s got a rowing machine in it. I want bold accents, energising tones and maybe even a splash of something unexpected. A little joy goes a long way when you’re staring down a set of lunges.
I’m steering well clear of an overly masculine look, even though Mr M is the one sweating it out in there most days. No gritty industrial metal or dark cave vibes here. I want it to feel fresh, light-hearted and a little bit playful—more “you’ve got this” than “no pain, no gain.”
The goal is motivation—to actually want to spend time in there (or at least not dread it). A mix of practicality and storage, yes, but without it slipping into “members-only fitness club” territory. We don’t need clinical. We need character.
It’s still early days and I’m just starting to layer the look. But having a strong visual direction already feels like a win—and hopefully, it’s the push I need to finally bring the room to life.
Stay tuned. The glow-up’s coming.
