We absolutely love Waiheke Island and have visited more times than I can remember. The holiday/ long weekend starts soon as you step onto ferry and 45min later you’re ready to wind down to island time.

Whilst Waiheke is famous for its wine, these recommendations don’t include our favourite wineries, but some of the other things we love.

Onetangi beach with golden sand and evening glow

Favourite beach: Onetangi

There are many beautiful beaches on Waiheke – Onetangi is by far our favourite.

1.8km of pristine golden sands and crystal-clear waters paired with a vibrant beachfront community and a small handful of eateries are a winning combination.

We fantasise about living there every time we visit 😅

Allpress Olive Groves

Pop into Allpress for a guided olive oil tasting. Waiheke’s climate is  perfect for producing world-class extra virgin olive oil and Allpress does it really well.

My favourite is the peppery Frantoio Blend. Drizzle it on a simple salad or dip some fresh crusty bread into it – heaven!

Ostend Saturday Market

Ostend Saturday Market

Skip breakfast and head straight to the vibrant Ostend Saturday Market. A range of food stalls, crafts, bric-a-brac along with live music make this a firm destination on each of our weekend trips to Waiheke.

Stony Batter Historic Reserve

At the far eastern end of the island sits Stony Batter, a historic site known for its World War II gun emplacements and underground tunnels. Nestled amidst rugged coastal landscapes, it offers panoramic views of the ocean & hills.

Get some steps in, spend some time exploring the tunnels and beautiful setting.

Look out for my Waiheke Island top vineyards post! We haven’t tried all wines and wineries yet, but we’re getting there! 😅
