Waiheke Island is one of my favourite escapes, with its stunning landscapes, laid-back island vibe and those incredible Waiheke vineyards that make each visit a delight.
While popular spots like Cable Bay and Mudbrick Vineyards offer gorgeous views close to the ferry terminal, I often find myself wandering further inland to discover some of the island’s other standout vineyards. Each has its own unique atmosphere, delicious wines and a relaxed charm that keeps me coming back for more. Here are the Waiheke vineyards I love the most—each one offering a distinct experience.

Man O’ War Vineyard
This one’s a bit of an adventure to get to, but that’s part of its charm. You’ll drive through winding roads, past rugged coastal scenery, before finally arriving at the bay where the tasting room and restaurant overlook the water. It almost feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secret spot (and I do love a good secret spot!). The wine here is just as impressive as the location—I can’t get enough of their Ironclad and Dreadnought. If you’re looking for bold, complex reds, these are a must-try.
Tantalus Estate
Tantalus is all about the food for me. The Trust the Chef dinner is an absolute treat and something I recommend for special occasions. It’s a sophisticated dining experience, yet it still feels welcoming and relaxed. The way they pair local ingredients with their estate-grown wines is just brilliant—everything here feels thoughtfully curated.

Batch Winery
Perched at one of the highest points on Waiheke, Batch Winery is where I go for those stunning panoramic views. There’s something so calming about sipping wine while looking out over the island and beyond. It’s got a laid-back vibe that makes me want to stay for hours. The sparkling wines here are vibrant and fun, just like the atmosphere.
Poderi Crisci
Poderi Crisci is the kind of place that transports you straight to Italy. The Long Italian Lunch is one of my favourite experiences on the island—multiple courses, plenty of wine and no rush whatsoever. It’s tucked away in a more remote part of Waiheke, but that only adds to the feeling that you’ve discovered something truly special. If you have the time, I can’t recommend it enough.

Passage Rock Wines
There’s a lovely garden setting here that makes it such a relaxing lunch spot, especially on a sunny day. I appreciate that they have a vegan menu in addition to their regular one, so there’s something for everyone. I’m a big fan of their rosé—it’s light, refreshing, and pairs perfectly with a lazy afternoon. Their reds are also award-winning, and it’s easy to see why.
Te Motu Vineyard
The food here is fantastic—seriously, it’s one of my top picks on Waiheke for a reason. I love the focus on fresh, local ingredients, and the rich reds are exactly what you’d hope for when exploring Waiheke’s terroir. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a slow lunch and just enjoy the moment.

Why I Love Waiheke Vineyards
There’s just something about the combination of Waiheke’s natural beauty, warm hospitality and incredible wine that keeps me coming back.
Whether I’m drawn to the remote coastal charm of Man O’ War, the hilltop views of Batch Winery or the Italian vibes of Poderi Crisci, each visit feels like a mini adventure. If you’re planning a trip to Waiheke, I’d say venture beyond the more popular spots—these are the wineries I keep returning to, and they’re well worth exploring.
