2024 Travel Highlights

With 2024 behind us, I’ve been reflecting on all the great travel highlights the year brought my way. From breathtaking hikes to indulging in some of the best wines and food, every trip was a treasure trove of memories. Here are my personal highlights from an unforgettable year:

January: Hiking the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, New Zealand

Kicking off the year with a big adventure, I tackled the Abel Tasman Coastal Track together with Mr M & some dear friends visiting from Germany. This hike was my first experience of New Zealand’s Great Walks and what a way to begin! Walking along golden beaches, stepping into the calm of lush native bush and swimming in those crystal-clear waters—each moment felt truly special. If you’re dreaming of this hike, check out my tips here:  Hiking New Zealand’s Abel Tasman Coastal Track.

February: Wine & Dine in Martinborough, New Zealand

February was all about slowing down and indulging. A weekend in Martinborough felt like a big hug for my taste buds. From the first sip of wine to the last bite of exquisite food, it was pure bliss. Relive the experience with me here: Wine & Dine in Martinborough, New Zealand.

March: Waiheke Island – It’s More Than Just Wine

Waiheke Island, just off the coast of Auckland, always feels like a little slice of paradise and my visits in 2024 reminded me why. While the island is famed for its vineyards and incredible wines, there’s so much more to discover. From its stunning beaches to the creative local art scene and delicious food, Waiheke offers something for everyone. If you’re planning a trip, here’s a broader look at why this island is so special: Waiheke Island – It’s More Than Just Wine.

April: Adventure and Relaxation in Raglan, New Zealand

Raglan was the perfect mix of action and peace. I loved soaking up Raglan’s laid-back vibe, exploring the shops and exploring the area. There’s something about Raglan’s vibe that just soothes the soul. Here’s a closer look: Adventure and Relaxation in Raglan.

July: A Week in Scotland

Scotland had been on my bucket list to revisit for ages and it didn’t disappoint. From the rugged beauty of the Highlands to the serene lochs and the friendly Highland cows, it was like stepping into a movie. You can explore my favourite spots here: A Week in Scotland – My Favourite Spots.

August: Road Trip Through Brittany and Normandy

In August, my sister and I hit the road for a trip through parts of Brittany and Normandy. The charming old towns, the stunning countryside and all the laughs with my sister made it a journey I’ll always treasure. While I haven’t written about it (yet), the memories are etched in my mind (and in way too many photos).

December: Hiking the Routeburn Track, New Zealand

Mr M and I wrapped up the year with an unforgettable adventure on the Routeburn Track in Fiordland. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of standing at the top of the trail, looking out over those sweeping alpine vistas. It was the perfect way to end the year. Here’s more about that magical hike: Through Fiordland and Beyond: Hiking the Routeburn Track.

Looking Ahead to 2025

I’m so excited for what’s to come in 2025. Our annual trip to Germany is already on the calendar for mid-year and I can’t wait to spend some time at the little house again. Easter will take us to Tasmania for the first time, which feels like an adventure waiting to happen. And if everything works out, we might finally make it to Bosnia Herzegovina during our European trip. Have you been? I’d love your recommendations!
